About Guilton Forge Garage

Guilton Forge Garage Ltd. was founded in June 1970, initially purchasing the old blacksmith’s building in Poulton Lane.

William Ralph, one of the original owners of the company, is now a director, with is son, Peter Ralph, having taking on the position of Managing Director.

The freehold of the adjoining agricultural contractor’s buildings was bought early in 1972 and the body shop side of the business expanded rapidly into these buildings, mainly through the painting of commercial vehicles for the rapidly expanding transport and sales companies in the area at that time. The business started MOT testing in 1979. The company then had four directors and a further eight employees.

The company management has seen the resignation/retirement of three directors over the 40-year period, and the appointment of just one, but no reduction in the labour force which remains at eight.

The most notable changes have been the development and expansion of the MOT testing and servicing departments, which are now the main parts of the business. Expansion to the MOT bay and the updating of the testing equipment has enabled us to achieve the status of an ATL (Automated Test Lane).

We no longer undertake bodywork or painting but a separate company, BH Bodycraft, now operates from one of our buildings and provides these services on site.

The company has been a member of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) since 1980 and subscribes to their Repair Quality Assurance scheme and MOT Quality Assurance Scheme. We also subscribe to the Motor Industry Code of Practice.
